A New Taxpayer’s First Month

8 min read

The first month after you register in Ankara is busy: the tax plate, e-documents, rent, payroll and the first return. We set that order with you at our Kızılay office.

Once a company is registered in Ankara, most people relax. The papers are done, the trade name is chosen, the sign is on order. The real pace starts after that. A new taxpayer’s first month is the month every institution meets you separately. The tax office checks the address, the bank asks for the legal name, a lease can create withholding, and hiring opens the social security door.

This guide is the order we use with people opening a workplace in Çankaya and Kızılay. The choice between a sole proprietorship and a limited company is in our company type article. The paperwork sits in the sole proprietorship and limited company guides. Here the subject is the thirty days after the door opens. Someone searching for an Ankara accountant usually wants a calendar, ahead of a penalty.

Week one: the tax plate, the address and a possible visit

The start date at the tax office decides which month the first return covers. Hang the tax plate where it can be seen, and use the same name on the sign. A short brand on the glass and a long legal name on the paper creates a needless question if an inspector calls.

Write the address the same way on the tax record, the lease and the bank. A missing floor or door number sends official mail back, and that mail can be an overdue notice you never saw. Around Kızılay the registered address is sometimes not the desk where the work happens. The record should follow the place where you serve customers. If you are unsure, settle it in a company formation meeting.

A tax office visit is not guaranteed on day one. If someone comes, a calm explanation of the activity is enough. An empty room with no sign can be written up as if there is no activity. Week one is done when the plate is up, one person knows the address, and a copy of the formation papers stays in the office.

The first meeting is for formation papers, the lease and the bank details. You do not need to carry every receipt that day.

Week two: the bank, the lease and e-documents

In a limited company, open an account in the company’s name. Receipts in a partner’s personal account create later arguments about profit and debt. In a sole proprietorship, keep household spending off the business card.

Give the lease to your advisor this week. A workplace tenant may have to withhold tax on the rent. The rate and the filing window change, so this article does not lock a percentage. The rent, who keeps the withholding, and the deposit line are enough. Using a home as a workplace without saying so also muddles the address. In Çankaya, settle that split in month one.

e-Invoice and e-Archive are not mandatory on the morning you open. The Revenue Administration updates turnover and sector thresholds over time. Who must switch is in the e-ledger and e-invoice guide. Ask whether you will cross this year’s threshold, or whether a customer already wants an e-invoice. Marketplace sellers should also read the e-commerce accounting article.

A book that needs certification is certified before use. Gather invoices and expense slips in one folder: sales, expenses, bank, rent. A pile of chat photos does not become a return.

The second half of the month: the first return and staff

The first VAT return covers the month you started and is filed in the following declaration window. This article does not freeze a day number, because the official calendar can move. Which return falls in which window is kept in the tax return calendar. A quiet month is still a month. A nil return and a missing return are not the same result.

Provisional tax starts from the period you open and runs quarterly. A first month at the end of a quarter leaves less time to prepare. We pin that to a calendar in a tax consulting meeting. Look at rough turnover and costs before the advance-tax figure starts to worry you.

If you will hire, the social security notice is generally filed before work starts. Leaving has a short deadline of its own, and the monthly premium is often discussed in the twenties of the month. The detail is in the payroll and SGK guide. A trial week with no notice is the expensive mistake of month one. Regular employer tasks are on the social security services page.

Courier and marketplace work does not wait for week two, because a document is issued with the first job. If the steps in the courier sole proprietorship article are done, the first delivery’s document belongs inside this month. Collecting money with no document leaves the month’s revenue short.

How we split attention in the first month (total 100)

Plate, address, visit25
Bank and e-documents25
Document folder20
First return20
Staff and SGK10

This split is not an official statistic. It is the suggestion we use in our Kızılay office when planning a new taxpayer’s first month.

What can honestly wait

Month one does not have to solve everything. A logo contest, the last pixel of a website and an embossed card do not save a return. Let the registration, the address, the account and the document habit settle first. A trademark, a grant search and a full-year budget can move to month two. Financial planning is that second step. In the first thirty days it is enough to see where cash leaves and on which day rent and premiums are paid.

Incentives depend on conditions. Reductions, including the five-point premium reduction, need a notice filed on time and debts kept in order. Ask your advisor to write the condition on that month’s file. If you do not meet it, do not claim it.

What to bring to the office

For a first-month meeting at our financial advisory office in Kızılay, these are enough: formation papers, the tax plate, identification, the lease, the signature circular, the bank details and, if you have hired, the employee’s identity. You do not need every receipt on day one. You need a habit. The measures we use when choosing an accountant are in how to choose an accountant in Ankara. How the fee follows this pace is in the fee guide.

Day-to-day records sit inside the accounting service. Month one is for a rhythm you will not be surprised by. Online and face-to-face work is compared in a separate article. To visit the office in Ankara, book on the contact page and send the papers ahead.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to hire an accountant in the first month?

With a small volume you can file a return yourself. New taxpayers in Ankara usually get stuck on the address, the documents and the employee notice, not on the filing screen. An advisor who sets that order in month one makes the rest of the year quieter.

When should the tax plate go on the wall?

Once the tax record exists, hang the plate where it can be seen. The sign and the plate should use the same name. If you start before the plate arrives, be ready to explain that briefly during a visit.

Is e-invoice mandatory on day one?

No. The duty depends on turnover, the sector and the threshold the Revenue Administration announces for that year. Thresholds move. If a customer already asks for an e-invoice, or you are near the threshold, plan the switch in week two.

When do I notify SGK about an employee?

The notice is generally filed before the person starts work. Leaving also has a short deadline. A trial day with no notice is the common expensive mistake of the first month.

If I have no sales, can I skip the return?

A nil return and a missing return are different. If the month you started falls in a filing window, that period still closes. Follow the day on the tax return calendar.

Final word

A new taxpayer’s first month in Ankara looks like a race to reach every office at once. A sequence ends the race. The plate and the address come first, then the bank and the lease, then the e-document decision and the first return. If you hire, the notice does not sit outside that sequence. It sits at the front.

At our office in Kızılay we write this calendar with you. If the formation papers are ready, book a short meeting. Bring the lease and the account details. We spread the rest across the month.

Ask our advisor for an assessment tailored to your situation.
